JETS is a versatile modular software package applicable for a variety of engines or units under test, such as turbo-fan and turbo-prop engines, reciprocal engines, fuel control stands, etc. The software interfaces with a standard operating system and an analog/digital front-end to provide real-time, high speed data acquisition capability.
JETS contains built-in safeguards to bring the unit under test to a controlled idle or shutdown upon sensing certain pre-defined out-of-limit conditions. Computer controlled testing can be interrupted by manual intervention at any time, and automated testing can be resumed at any operator selected test phase.
JETS supports both manual and automatic modes. It acquires facility data, converts it to engineering units, and displays the results continuously, independent of other system activities. It also provides supervisory functions and monitoring techniques required for engine testing in a closed-loop environment.
JETS generic test software was developed for use with computer systems capable of real-time operations. The software is available in either FORTRAN or C language which ensures transportability between computer systems with minimal changes. Software to sample, control, and monitor an engine under test is table driven to accommodate facility changes, reconfigurations, and/or expansions.
Essential hardware required for a successful closed-loop test system includes a control console and a throttle system to interface with JETS for manual and automatic testing of multiple engines and/or models.
The control console provides a `bumpless' transfer of test stand controls and functions when switching between manual and automatic control. As a systems integrator, PCT can supply a turnkey system that includes consoles and an electronic throttle system, in addition to the JETS software package.
